Change your perspective on challenging situations

A change of perspective can be golden and help you more than yet another flimsy argument to support your case.

There are at least 3 versions to every story.
Mine.
Yours.
What actually happened.
Most people spend most of their lives defending their version. And later on, wonder how and why they stayed stuck.
One of the most important skills to face challenges in your life is to be able to take on a new point of view. To change your perspective.
So when you have your next argument, whether it's in your private life or in business, try to put yourself in your opponent's shoes. Literally change position wherever you are and switch sides. Then ask yourself:
What's bothering me now?
What am I worried about?
What frustrates me?
What do I want to achieve?
Exercise to Change your Perspective on a Challenging Situation
Describe a real difficult situation. Maybe think of the person you were working with in the exercise "Building & Developing a Connection".
If you cannot think of a situation with that person, think of another one.
You can download the "Challenging Situation" exercise as a worksheet here or use the following suggestions to explore the topic:
What's the situation?
What do you want?
What does the other person want?
What feelings does this situation bring up in you?
What feelings does it seem to bring up in the other person?
What about your identity feels impacted?
What could be impacting the identity of others in this situation?
If you can do that, you’ve already come a long way and probably have a whole new perspective on things.
By the way, this works in both personal and professional contexts.
Think about your last conflict, try arguing against yourself, and let me know what you discovered!
