Have you ever been stuck in a circle of thoughts for so long that you forgot what brought you here in the first place? Because I most definitely have. We tend to overcomplicate things. Sometimes, simple exercises can help us take a step back and find our way again.

The Relationship Map is a visual aid and an excellent and simple exercise.

"The good life is built with good relationships". - Dr. Robert Waldinger

Stable relationships can have a profound influence in supporting you to lead a healthy, happy, and, hence, longer life. How does your social network look at the moment? Who are the most important human beings in your life? How are your current relationships with them?

The Relationship Map is a simple yet powerful exercise that helps you gain a clear overview of your connections and identify the most important relationships in your life.

Exercise - The Relationship Map

  1. Take a piece of paper, draw three to four concentric circles, just as you see in the image above.

  2. Think of your relationships and the humans in your life who are most important to you. Place them on the Map by writing their names, where they belong for you.

  3. Put the most important person in the middle and work outwards.

Think of the rings as your social networks or circle of friends and family.

  4. Don't forget to place yourself!

  5. What do these people mean to you?

Write one or two sentences about everyone and figure out why they are on your map.

  6. When was the last time you told them what you have figured out?

Try it and let me know how it worked for you!

Future Pace of your social network on your relationship map

Look at your finished relationship map. How does it make you feel? Is there something missing?

Imagine and visualize your ideal version. Which steps would you need to take to get there?

How can you strengthen or revitalize your existing relationships?

Find to steps you can take immediately and take them!

Maybe you want to call someone or invite them to a new activity to do together?
